Circular triad
A pattern where A beats B, B beats C and C beats A — that is, a hierarchy that is not consistent.
Circular triads are not noise. They typically indicate that priority depends on the situation rather than on the value, or that two groups within the same unit hold different hierarchies. The number of triads therefore measures how unambiguous the culture is.
